US 101 HOV and Auxiliary Lanes Project
Palo Alto to Mountain View, California
A recipient of the 2015 APWA Silicon Valley Chapter Award for Project of the Year in Transportation in the More than $25 Million Category, the 3.4 mile long, $102 Million highway project constructed auxiliary lanes in each direction, and extended HOV lanes, to improve traffic operations along US 101 between SR 85 in Mountain View and Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto, CA.
The project also widened three freeway on-ramps at the Oregon Expressway, Rengstorff Avenue and Old Middlefield Way interchanges.
Haygood & Associates designed context sensitive, drought tolerant and water-conserving landscapes and irrigation systems for the project to restore the natural character of the highway corridor. In addition to the landscape design, Haygood & Associates surveyed the visual resources and provided the visual impact technical report for the environmental phase of the work.
