Route 238 Corridor Improvement Project
City of Hayward, California
The award-winning Route 238 City of Hayward project is a $60M, 4.7 mile long streetscape project with hardscape and landscape features designed by Haygood & Associates as consultant to Mark Thomas & Company.
Complete with landscaped streets and medians, gateways and parks, Haygood & Associates designed the site aesthetics for the project structures and furniture which included gateway structures, park features, signal bridges, street lights and signs as well as the planting and irrigation.
Notable is the fact that the entire project was designed according to sustainable practices and was certified as compliant by the Bay Friendly organization, a non-profit organization that works with public agencies to reduce waste and pollution and conserve natural resources.
The project also includes landscaped biofiltration units to filter storm water runoff from the city streets.
Among the many awards received for the project was the 2014 California Transportation Foundation Local Street Project of the Year.
