Warm Springs Extension BART
City of Fremont, California
The $890M Warm Springs Extension of BART added 5.4 miles of track and a passenger station from an existing station in central Fremont south of Walnut Avenue, to a new station in the city's Warm Springs District to the south.
As a consultant to Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc., Haygood & Associates designed the landscape and hardscape features for the Warm Spring Station including the vehicular and pedestrian plazas, frontage and entrance roads, 2,000-car parking lot and perimeter site areas as well as areas within Central Park that were disturbed by the subway construction. Areas around a ventilation structure within the park, modifications to the existing Fremont Station and restoration of areas around the tail track to the south were landscaped.
During the design build contract, Haygood & Associates was the landscape architect for the Parsons Brinckerhoff GEC oversight team for BART reviewing the work of the design/build team. Shimmick/Skanska Joint Venture constructed the north Subway segment of the project and the Warm Springs Constructors Design Build Team Kiewit/Mass A Joint Venture designed and constructed the Line, Track, Station and Systems contract to the south.
